Description

At a depth of 16.6m in the flooded quarry in Jaworzno lies a mining excavator. It is in the same place where it worked before the quarry was closed.

The site was once an active dolomite quarry, and the excavator was used for extracting this rock.

In 1997 the power to the pumps was cut off, and the quarry filled with water. There was no time or money to move the heavy machines, so the excavator stayed where it was.
As the water rose, it slowly sank and became fully underwater.

Today the excavator rests on the bottom of the quarry. It is an easy object for divers to find, and its shape is still clearly visible under the water.
