HOW THE SCANS ARE MADE

From a dive plan and photographic survey to a complete 3D reconstruction.

UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAMMETRY

FROM PHOTOS TO 3D MODEL

Underwater photogrammetry is a technique that transforms hundreds or even thousands of overlapping photographs into detailed 3D models of real underwater objects. Unlike traditional 3D modeling, the geometry is reconstructed from photographs rather than manually created from scratch.

The process begins underwater, where an object is photographed from multiple angles, ensuring that each image overlaps with the surrounding ones. Specialized software then identifies matching features across the photographs and calculates the relative position and orientation of each camera shot. This information is used to generate a 3D point cloud, which is gradually transformed into a detailed polygonal mesh representing the object's shape and structure.

The final stage involves applying photographic textures to the reconstructed geometry, preserving the original colors, surfaces, and intricate details of the underwater object.

Since underwater conditions such as limited visibility, changing light, and suspended particles can affect image quality, careful planning and consistent photographic coverage are essential.

The result is a digital reconstruction that can be explored from any angle, studied in detail, and even transformed into a physical 3D print.

Where Geometry Meets Detail

Thousands of underwater photographs are transformed into detailed 3D models through photogrammetry. Explore the difference between raw mesh geometry and the final textured reconstruction, revealing the intricate details of each underwater object.

3D Printing

From Geometry to Reality

Each 3D reconstruction is transformed into a physical model, carefully printed and hand-painted to preserve the unique character of the original wreck. A piece of underwater history you can hold in your hands.
